Bertsch Family Celebrates in Style

The Bob and Alice Bertsch family of Erie County knows how to throw a party!

The group gathered in September to commemorate their 150th year of farm ownership and their registration as an Ohio Century Farm.

Preparations for the event included planning for a potluck lunch, while one son made the frame for their Ohio Century Farm sign, and another son ordered a case of wine with the family’s own label. Everyone was asked to wear overalls with a straw hat.

Bob used the bucket of his D17 Allis Chalmers as a perfect place for a photo of their six great-grandchildren.

Bob and Alice have lived on their farm for 69 years. At one time they kept a country store and 2,500 layers. A landmark on the farm, their big chicken statue, has been with them for more than 40 years. Although their farm is now located within the city of Sandusky and surrounded by condos and homes, they continue to farm.
